Money is flowing into US exchange-traded funds at a pace that puts another annual record within reach.

From January through August 2026, US-listed ETFs attracted $1.371 trillion in net inflows. That is already around 94% of the $1.466 trillion collected during the whole of 2025.

ETFs are funds that trade on an exchange like shares. They let investors buy exposure to a basket of assets, from broad stock markets to government bonds and individual sectors.

August brought another $180 billion into US-listed ETFs, according to the figures cited in the sample’s State Street commentary.

That matters because a strong annual total can sometimes be driven by one unusually busy period. Here, the flow of new money continued deep into the summer.
